FAQs
what is therapy like?
therapy can be many different things.
therapy can be a goal-oriented endeavor where you work on avoidance and problem-solve barriers. therapy can be a place where you dedicate an hour a week to being curious about yourself or the world around you.
therapy can also mean evidence-based treatments for clinical diagnoses that are getting in the way of life, like PTSD, OCD, panic disorder, eating disorders, etc.
therapy is what you make it.
how is mindfulness helpful?
“i really want to quit asking for reassurance, but i just can’t stop myself.” — “i don’t know what’s wrong, i just feel like my mind is racing all the time.” — “i’ve talked about my trauma so much, but i still can’t really feel anything.” if any of these sound like you, mindfulness skills may be a tool to help you. you can think of mindfulness like attention training, making you a better observer of your mind and heart so you can respond, rather than react.
how long does therapy take?
typically, we start by meeting once a week for 50 minutes. generally it is wise to invest at least 6 months into therapy, but some people choose to maintain therapy for years. many choose to reduce treatment to every other week once they feel more stable. you’re in charge, and your therapist will make recommendations along the way.
